1. How do I get started?
To start investing, simply visit www.sum1investments.co.za and follow the sign-up instructions.

2. How much do I need to start investing?
You can begin investing with just R500 per month for a minimum of 12 months. Stokvels are free to increase contributions or make once-off lump sum investments at any time.
3. What returns can I expect from my investment?
Sum1 has delivered returns of 15–19% per annum (after fees) since 2020. We target returns of at least 15% annually, although results may vary year-on-year depending on asset performance.
4. When will I get my money back?
You can withdraw your investment 13 months after your first contribution which is typically January to January. After 13 months, you’re welcome to reinvest for the next cycle.
5. Where will my money be invested?
Your contributions go into a diversified, risk-managed portfolio of income-generating assets in rural and township markets.
These include:
* Logistics
* Livestock farming
* Crop farming
* Small businesses
These sectors are in high demand and offer strong short-term return potential.
6. How are investments made?
Sum1 facilitates the purchase and management of assets like delivery bikes or livestock through experienced partners.
For example, delivery bikes are leased to drivers who pay them off over time, generating monthly income for the stokvel.
Returns are distributed proportionally among members based on their contributions.
7. How safe is my money?
While all investments carry some risk, we reduce exposure through diversification across regions, asset classes, and partners. Our assets are also insurance-backed to protect against losses due to theft or damage.
8. Are there any fees?
Yes; we charge a 3% per annum management fee on the total value of member contributions. This covers the cost of entering, managing, and exiting investments.
9. Can I invest as an individual or do I need to be part of a stokvel?
You’re welcome to join as an individual or as part of a group. While SUM1 is stokvel-friendly by design, we support both solo and collective investors. If you're part of a group, you can invest under one account to build wealth together.
10. Who manages the day-to-day running of the investments?
Our team handles the admin so you don’t have to. We work with vetted operators and experienced service providers to manage and maintain each investment, from leasing out assets to collecting repayments and reporting performance.
11. Can we track our investment performance?
Absolutely. Each stokvel gets access to a private dashboard via our web app, where you can view your investment balance, contributions, and projected returns. We also share regular updates and summaries to keep you in the loop.
